Book Beginnings on Friday (3)

Book Beginnings on Friday is a new meme hosted by Becky at Page Turners. Anyone can participate; just share the opening sentence of your current read, making sure that you include the title and author so others know what you're reading. If you'd like, share with everyone why you do, or do not, like the sentence.

Thirteenth Child by Patricia C. Wrede

Everybody knows that a seventh son is lucky.

I like this sentence because luck and believing in luck according to birth order plays a big part in the story, especially with the treatment of Eff, the main character. She is the thirteenth child, believed to be unlucky and likely to become evil. Unfortunately for Eff, some of her relatives have been very cruel to her because of this belief.
