24 Hour Read A Thon Wrap Up

I had originally planned to read for only 8-12 hours but I ended up reading for 16 hours.

1. Which hour was most daunting for you?

I did not stay up for the entire 24 hours but I would say that 1 a.m. was difficult. I had planned to go to sleep earlier but I couldn't fall asleep so I decided to keep reading. The only way I was able to read as long as I did (past 2 a.m.) was because I was so engrossed in my book (The Unwritten Rule).

2. Could you list a few high-interest books that you think could keep a Reader engaged for next year?
I think "high interest" varies from person to person. If you haven't read the Hunger Games series it might be a good one to do during the next readathon in October because the final book in the trilogy comes out in August so you could read all three back to back and they are the kinds of books that you can't put down. Or if there is a series or book by an author you love that is coming out around the time of the Readathon, save it to read until then.

3. Do you have any suggestions for how to improve the Read-a-thon next year?
I can't think of anything

4. What do you think worked really well in this year’s Read-a-thon?
I think the hourly memes were neat but I only participated in a couple because I wanted to concentrate on my reading

5. How many books did you read?
I finished four books and read most of The Unwritten Rule before finally falling asleep. I also read some chapters of Jane Slayre and part of The Anonymous Bride but didn't finish them yet

6. What were the names of the books you read?
A Match Made in High School by Kristin Walker
The Off Season by Catherine Gilbert Murdock
Front and Center by Catherine Gilbert Murdock
The Sky is Everywhere by Jandy Nelson
The Unwritten Rule by Elizabeth Scott (not completed during Readathon)
Jane Slayre by Charlotte Bronte and Sherri Browning Erwin (still reading)
The Anonymous Bride by Vickie McDonough (still reading)

7. Which book did you enjoy most?
A tie between Front and Center and The Unwritten Rule

8. Which did you enjoy least?
Jane Slayre (I like the book but it is not the best choice for a Readathon-it is basically Jane Eyre with a little bit of vampire and zombie killing action)

9.  If you were a Cheerleader, do you have any advice for next year’s Cheerleaders?
I was not a cheerleader but I appreciated their support

10. How likely are you to participate in the Read-a-thon again? What role would you be likely to take next time?
I'll probably participate again although I kind of like the idea of a Read-a-thon that is spread out over a weekend instead of one day. It is not easy to pay attention to what you are reading when you are tired. It kind of reminded me of my college days when I'd pull all nighters before an exam.

  1. It's true, it is hard to absorb what you're reading when you can't focus due to sleep deprivation. This was my first time participating, and I think I've learned that next time I will be sure to read fluff novels, instead of anything too taxing.

    Congrats on your read-a-thon success.

You can see my Read-A-Thon wrap-up meme here if you're interested. ;-)
