Review #7 Captivate

Captivate
By Carrie Jones
Publication date: January 5, 2010
Rating: ****1/2

My review:

Zara White and her friends are once again in danger when a new pixie king comes to town. The pixie king for their area may be imprisoned but now his powers are weaker and other pixies are moving in to try and take over. When Zara meets Astley, he tells her that he is different and that not all pixies are evil. Astley also tells Zara that he believes she is meant to be his queen...

I really liked the first book in this series, Need. I love the character of Zara with her quirky way of reciting phobias when she is scared and her desire to help people around the world through groups like Amnesty International and letter writing campaigns. I also love the relationship between Zara and Nick. In Captivate, we learn more about pixie lore and Zara's own situation. The novel blends suspense, romance, fantasy, and humor as we see both normal teen situations and emotions alongside dealing with the paranormal elements. There is another mystery to solve and new characters are introduced, most notably Astley who is an intriguing character. Unlike Need, Captivate ends with a cliffhanger ending that will leave you waiting anxiously for the next book. Once again Carrie Jones has written a spellbinding novel. If you like paranormal romance, Captivate is a must read!

Read an excerpt of the book or find out more about Captivate .

Disclosure: I received an ARC of this book from the publisher for review purposes.
