It's Monday, What Are You Reading (108)

It's Monday, What Are You Reading is a fun weekly meme hosted by Sheila at Book Journey where we share what we've read and reviewed over the past week and what we plan to read next.

I had a crazy week at work and home but I still found time for reading (and it kept me sane!). This coming week will hopefully be calmer but I have a lot to do before the weekend so I may not get much reading done at all.

Books read:

Wallflower in Bloom by Claire Cook

I had high expectations for Wallflower in Bloom and sadly they were not exactly met. I did like the Dancing With the Stars part (the little of it that there was) but the book ended abruptly with the heroine learning her lessons really quickly.

Anyone But You by Jennifer Crusie

The basset hound on the cover is Fred and he is one of the delightful things about this book. I liked it but it wasn't as good as Bet Me. This May-October romance had a rushed ending too but it was a fun and quick read.

This was a fun spoof of fairy tales featuring the various princes known as "Prince Charming" and their plan to become heroes that will be recognized.

Books reviewed:

Spring Fever by Mary Kay Andrews
Wentworth Hall by Abby Grahame

Currently reading:

Heir to the Empire by Timothy Zahn (reread)

When I was a teen I became a huge Star Wars fan and this was one of my favorite books. The audio book is a lot of fun to listen to. Marc Thompson does a fantastic job with the voices. It really does sound like Han Solo and Luke Skywalker. He even does an eerily accurate Obi-wan Kenobi and there are sound effects and snippets of the movie soundtrack. Can you tell that I like it?  :)

Bloodlines by Richelle Mead (reread)

What I plan to read next:

The Golden Lily by Richelle Mead

This is released on Tuesday and I will be buying it right away to read on my Kindle.  I've read an excerpt already and it was really good.  I may be tired of vampire books but this is one series I make an exception for. Richelle Mead has yet to let me down!

The Queen's Lady by Eve Edwards

I hope to get to The Queen's Lady soon. I love Tudor fiction and thought the first book was pretty good.

What have you been reading lately?
Have you read any of the books on my list this week?

  1. Wow that cover of The Golden Lily is just gorgeous! I've read some books by Richelle Mead, but haven't gone back to visit anything in a while. Just no time it seems like!

  4. It's too bad a couple of these books turned out to be kind of underwhelming. I hope you love Bloodlines. :-)

  5. I agree that reading helps calm a harried week for me too.
Okay- I am tempted by several of your titles - both the Cruise and Healy books. And I will have to consider the Star Wars audio as you make it sound really enjoyable.
    Have a great week.

  6. Love Richelle Mead too, looking forward to The Golden Lily but I have to read Bloodlines first. Love the cover of Anyone But You, shame it wasn't quite as good as Bet Me.
Hope this week is a little less crazy and happy reading :)

  9. Isn't Bet Me just one of the great romance books ever?? I love the characters, the plot, and of course the wonderful ending with the Krispy Kremes! :) ha! Anyone But You was cute but I totally agree, it doesn't compare very well with Bet Me.

    Happy reading this week :)
What are YOU reading @ the Brunette Librarian??

  10. My husband used to read Zahn's Star Wars books. I was never enough of a fan of the series to consider reading them, though.

My favorite read last week was Swahili for the Broken Hearted by Peter Moore. Please come see what else I'm reading.

  11. I didn't know you were such a big Star Wars fan! I read this one myself when I was a teen. I loved getting to meet Mara Jade and see the development of her character throughout the series. The audiobook sounds really cool-I will definitely need to add this to my list to check out.

  14. I just picked up Wallflower in Bloom from the library and am looking forward to reading it.

I'm going to check out that Eve Edwards series - I love Tudor fiction, too but I've never heard of this author or the series.

    Have a great week!

  16. I'm getting close to the end of Bet Me on audio, and I have to admit that I'm loving it at this point. It's been ages since I've indulged in chick lit, but I'm having so much fun with it! The Hero's Guide sounds awesome. Enjoy your week!
