Sunday Post (94) / It's Monday, What Are You Reading

The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimberly @ Caffeinated Book Reviewer. It’s a post to recap the past week, showcase books and things we have received and share news about what is coming up on our blog for the week ahead. It's Monday, What Are You Reading is a fun weekly meme now hosted by Kathryn at Book Date, where we share what we've read and reviewed over the past week and what we plan to read next.

As I write this it is Friday night and I am at my parents' house for the weekend. We'll be bringing my dad home tomorrow so it's going to be a big day. My sister and her husband brought over a recliner for our dad on Thursday (he'll be sleeping in it for the next several months) and she'll be here tomorrow as well. I got to visit my dad this evening and he is doing well. I was there for part of his therapy session so I got to see the different exercises he has to do even when he gets home.

This past week has been so busy but now that I am done with summer programs I can just focus on catching up on other things. The 80s themed murder mystery dinner went well. We had about 30 people in attendance and everyone had a good time. I did a costume contest as part of the festivities and people (mostly women) really got into the whole dressing up aspect. I certainly had fun with it!

My coworkers and I

The suspects (the overachiever, the prom queen, the misfit, the jock, the troublemaker and the nerd)

Last Sunday afternoon I went to see Wonder Woman with one of my coworkers and we both loved it. So far most of the people I've talked to all enjoyed the movie. For some reason I thought the story was set in WWII but it is actually during WWI. There were some historical discrepancies but it is a superhero movie not a period drama so I was willing to overlook that :)

I accidentally deleted one of my posts from this past week but was able to sort of reconstruct it. Unfortunately I lost all the comments and links to other people's blogs. I should have been more careful!

Last week on my blog:

Books read:

In Farleigh Field by Rhys Bowen

I love the Her Royal Spyness series so I was eager to read this standalone novel. Unlike that series, this takes place during WWII and focuses on an English village and its residents. Two of the main characters, Ben and Pamela (I hate her nickname--Pamma) are both secretly working for the government. A dead man in a parachute is found in Farleigh Field and believed to be a spy...

Unleashing Mr. Darcy by Teri Wilson

As the title implies, this romance is inspired by Pride and Prejudice but it takes place at a dog show.

Currently reading:

Anchor in the Storm by Sarah Sundin

This is the second book in the Waves of Freedom series, set during WWII. This book starts in December 1941 on the day of the Pearl Harbor attack with the characters hearing about it on the radio. The hero survived the attack but appears to be suffering from PTSD.

Currently listening to:

Once and For All by Sarah Dessen

I have the print version of the book checked out from the library but I needed something to listen to on my long drive to visit my parents. I am enjoying this so far, especially the funny stories of wedding planning woes. So far there haven't been any bridezillas.

On my TBR list:

In This Moment by Karma Brown

Words in Deep Blue by Cath Crowley

Royally Romanov by Teri Wilson

The Scribe of Siena by Melodie Winawer

Love Letters to the Dead by Ava Dellaira

New books received:

Once and For All by Sarah Dessen (Audible)

The Scribe of Siena by Melodie Winawer (Audible)

The Windfall by Diksha Basu (for review)

Love Letters to the Dead by Ava Dellaira (library book)

Refuge for Masterminds by Kathleen Baldwin (library book)

Sunday Post (93) / It's Monday, What Are You Reading

The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimberly @ Caffeinated Book Reviewer. It’s a post to recap the past week, showcase books and things we have received and share news about what is coming up on our blog for the week ahead. It's Monday, What Are You Reading is a fun weekly meme now hosted by Kathryn at Book Date, where we share what we've read and reviewed over the past week and what we plan to read next.

It's been a crazy couple of weeks. For those that don't know, my dad had quintuple bypass surgery which is why I've been absent recently. He is out of the hospital and now in a rehab facility at a nursing home where he is doing well. Hopefully it won't be long before he is back home. Thanks for your thoughts and prayers.

Me as Ms. Marvel (Kamala Khan)

At the library I have been busy trying to catch up from all the time off. We had our Comic Con event on Saturday and though the event didn't go the way we'd planned, we had over 130 people in attendance which was fantastic and the attendees seemed to enjoy themselves. On Monday I have my murder mystery dinner and I still have a lot to do to get ready for that.

Books read:

The Undateable by Sarah Title

I enjoyed this one though I wished there was more time spent in the library environment. She is an academic librarian but the library doesn't play a huge role in the book.

Before We Were Yours by Lisa Wingate

The historical part of the story was interesting but the contemporary story wasn't as compelling because I found the main character annoying.

Falling for Trouble by Sarah Title

This is another contemporary romance featuring a librarian. Liam is a library director in a small town who falls for a wild musician. I liked how the library was more a part of the story.

Then Came You by Becky Wade

This is an inspirational fiction novella about a guy who goes through a lot of heartache before he gets a happy ending. It leads up to the author's new Bradford Sisters series. There were some parts that just annoyed me. Not the hero but the heroine. She was not my favorite.

The Forever Summer by Jamie Brenner

I thought this was a nice "beach read" kind of book. The beach setting is fantastic and I liked the characters and family drama too.

Currently reading:

In Farleigh Field by Rhys Bowen

This is the first mystery outside of her "Royal Spyness" series that I've read. It is set during WWII and involves German spies and a British village.

Blogging break

I will be taking a blogging break to help take care of my dad. I mentioned in this weeks' Sunday Post that he was having a cardiac catheterization. The procedure went well but to our shock we found out that two of his arteries are 90% blocked and he needs open heart bypass surgery which will likely be in the next few days. Thoughts and prayers for my dad and my family are appreciated.
