Sunday Post (86) / It's Monday, What Are You Reading

The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimberly @ Caffeinated Book Reviewer. It’s a post to recap the past week, showcase books and things we have received and share news about what is coming up on our blog for the week ahead. It's Monday, What Are You Reading is a fun weekly meme now hosted by Kathryn at Book Date, where we share what we've read and reviewed over the past week and what we plan to read next.

My beloved cat niece and the mascot of my blog (photo taken a couple of years ago)

It's been a sad week that ended on a hopeful note. Kitty, my cat niece (and my sister's oldest fur baby) is very sick. Kitty had lost a lot of weight in recent months so my sister had taken her to their regular vet in February but the vet only put Kitty on some special food. She didn't really gain any weight back and then she quit drinking water and didn't eat last weekend so my sister took her to a new vet this past week. She found out that only 1/3 of Kitty's kidneys are functional and after three days at the vet's on an IV, Kitty is now home. My sister and her husband have to inject Kitty with fluids every other day for the rest of her life. Please keep Kitty and my sister in your thoughts and prayers. It is good news that Kitty responded to treatment but I have a coworker who went through this with her cat so I know what the eventual outcome is likely to be. :(

Not much reading done this week. I have a busy week ahead so that may not change. On Monday, the Peeps Diorama contest judging gets underway at the library so I'll be scrambling to get things ready and finish decorating our display case. I hope more dioramas were turned in over the weekend. Right now it's mostly my coworkers participating. On Tuesday, I have another movie program. This week I'll be trying to finalize my craft for next week. I was at the craft store on Saturday and they do not have enough styrofoam wreath forms in the size that I need. I will have to see if I can get some more elsewhere or come up with yet another wreath craft.

I enjoyed the spring weather and blooming trees even though we did get some snow on Thursday night/early Friday morning. Thankfully it didn't last long and the weather warmed up Saturday and should hit the 70s today. Very happy about that!

Last week on my blog:

Books read:

Alex, Approximately by Jenn Bennett

I loved this contemporary YA take on You've Got Mail. All the movie references made it more fun but I also enjoyed the story and the characters.

Currently reading:

The Whole Town's Talking by Fannie Flagg

I am about halfway done with this already. I thought it started out well and the characters were quirky and interesting at first. There is a definite feel of Our Town. I wish there was more character development though. It is kind of a quick history of the town instead.

On my TBR pile:

Letters to the Lost by Brigid Kemmerer

The Orphan's Tale by Pam Jenoff

A Twist in Time by Julie McElwain

New books received:

The Girl Who Wrote in Silk by Kelli Estes (library book)

The Wonder of Us by Kim Culbertson (for review)

  1. It's so sad when fur-babies aren't doing well :( I hope Kitty will perk up - and how frustrating that she has been unwell since February, and the other vet didn't really do anything for her.
Your new books look really good and I hope you'll enjoy them.
Have a wonderful week ahead and happy reading.

  2. What a cute kitty! Best wishes and prayers for her and your family that she is comfortable as possible and feels all the love. :) Looks like a sweetie!

The weather has been nicer here too! After a week of rain and gloominess we had sun and nice weather today. And tomorrow is supposed to be 70. Yay! Hope your nice weather continues too.

Good to know that Alex, Approximately is good.

  3. Oh, little Kitty baby :( so sorry about that. Kitties are the sunshine of the world.. Really hope she can still live a long and relatively healthy life, as much as she can.

I have also not done almost any reading this week. It was an incredibly hard week. Hope the next one's better.

Oh, and you'll be reading Lisa See's Tea Girl! I do recommend that one ever so strongly. Loved it sooooo much.

  4. I'm so sorry to hear about your sister's cat, but I am glad that the new vet was able to get her some help. It's so hard when our beloved pets get old. :( Good luck with all of your events at your library. I love the sound of the wreath craft. I don't have a wreath and would love to make my own...have no clue how! I hope you have a great week! I am interested in your thoughts on a Twist in Time.

  5. Prayers and healing vibes for Kitty. Good luck on your library events. I haven't done much reading either due to a cold that I got from a coworker. :(

  6. I'm sorry to hear about Kitty.

I'm posting while on my road trip, thanks to my trusty smart phone. It's Monday! What are your reading?

  7. So sorry to hear about Kitty! Give her kisses and love from all of us.

I'm going to have to check out that Beauty and the Beast book - what a gorgeous cover!

  8. So sorry about Kitty. Hopefully she will improve with the injections.

I loved The Orphan's Tale...and I'm curious about Alex, Approximately. I always love Fannie Flagg's books. Thanks for sharing, and here are MY WEEKLY UPDATES

  9. Sorry to hear that the cat has so many health problems. We get so attached to our fur-babies. hope this week is quieter. Come see my week here. Happy reading!

  10. Oh no, I am so sorry to hear about Kitty. :( Good vibes heading their way. Kitty looks so much like my Marlow too! The Peeps diorama sounds fun!

  11. Just took a peek at your Fandoms post, I am not big into getting with others over things I love but I'd join you with Downton Abbey loved it from the beginning and Outlander I loved way back when the first book came out. Read all the books but as yet have to watch the show!

  12. Sorry to hear about Kitty. I see a couple of books that I am interested in reading.

  13. You certainly have a very busy week ahead but it all sounds fun - so enjoy!

So sorry to hear about Kitty. Sending you and your sister some positive thoughts and prayers!

  14. Wow...some nice books.

    Have a great week.

  15. Aw, sorry to hear about the kitty. One of my fur-babies had to go through the whole IV thing (and he actually lived longer than I thought he was going to after we started the treatments). The bad part for me was keeping him still while the IV was in. He HATED it.

I'm excited for The Wonder of Us and am reading Alex, Approximately now. Happy reading!
