It's Monday, What Are You Reading (153)

It's Monday, What Are You Reading is a fun weekly meme hosted by Sheila at Book Journey where we share what we've read and reviewed over the past week and what we plan to read next.

Books reviewed:

Maid of Secrets by Jennifer McGowan

Books read:

Across a Star-Swept Sea by Diana Peterfreund

I really enjoyed this creative retelling of The Scarlet Pimpernel. The adventure/suspense angle is perhaps better than the romance in this one but I didn't mind that much.

The Husband's Secret by Liane Moriarty

I think this book would be great for book discussion groups. In some ways it was darker than I thought it would be but I liked it.

Currently reading:

The Sweetest Dark by Shana Abe

I've heard mostly positive things about this book and I requested the sequel for review from Amazon Vine so I need to read this one first. So far I like the writing style. It reminds me a little of Libba Bray's A Great and Terrible Beauty.

What I plan to read next:

The Deepest Night by Shana Abe

The Light in the Ruins by Chris Bohjalian

A member of my book group said this book was fantastic so I decided to move it up on my review pile. I have a feeling I will like it since there is a mystery involved.

  1. I am familiar with all of these books though I've only read The Sweetest Dark so far. I'm hoping to enjoy its sequel which I have queued to review soon. Hope it's as good.

  2. I just brought home The Husband's Secret. Across A Star Swept Sea caught my attention. Have a great reading week.

  3. I am unfamiliar with any of these books although The Husband's Secrets while a little dark as you say, may be intertesting. Happy reading.

  4. I don't mind a little dark, and I've read a couple of books by the Moriarty girls, a lot of talent in that family. Definitely curious about The Husband's Secret. Can't wait to see what you think of Shana Abe's books ... fingers crossed you love them!
Have a great week and happy reading :)

  5. Can't wait for your review of Across a Star Swept Sea! I also need to read The Sweetest Dark...good to hear that it reminds you of A Great and Terrible Beauty. I really enjoyed that series.

  6. I want to read The Husband's Secret and Across the Star-swept Sea--both are great choices. Enjoy your week reading.

  7. I must be reading the wrong books because I've never heard of these . I don't go down the fiction isles very often that's probably why. Sound interesting though and I might start reading some if I like them . Thanks for sharing . Here's my post:

  8. The Husband's Secret was a bit dark, but I really liked it.

The Light in the Ruins has to be good...I love Chris B's books.

  9. Glad that you enjoyed Across a Star-Swept Sea! Hope you enjoy your other books :)

  10. I've seen The Husband's Secret about 4 times today. Guess I'll have to see what it's about.

  11. I've been hearing great things about The Light in the Ruins. I'm number 40 something in the library queue, so I think you will be finishing it long before I will!

  12. The Light of Ruins and The Husband's Secret are the two I'd like to know more about!

  13. I'm glad you enjoyed the husbands secret, it's great an Aussie writer is being read so widely o/s

    Have a great week
