It's Monday, What Are You Reading (111)

It's Monday, What Are You Reading is a fun weekly meme hosted by Sheila at Book Journey where we share what we've read and reviewed over the past week and what we plan to read next.

This past week I was able to finish more books than I usually do. This coming week I am going to Toronto to do some saree shopping and visit my family. I don't know how much reading time I'll have but my Kindle will be going with me. If it was up to me, I'd listen to audio books on the 8 hour drive but alas my family doesn't agree :)

Books read:

This book was just as good the second time around. The members of my book group seemed to enjoy it too. One person said the audio version was excellent so I may have to check that out some time.

I was surprised that I liked this book so much. I liked The Girl in the Steel Corset but wasn't sure this sequel would live up to book one. Needless to say I did end up liking it though one of the characters really annoyed me.

The Queen's Lady by Eve Edwards

This  sequel to The Other Countess was pretty good though it did have flaws. I enjoy reading Tudor fiction and though this is a YA book it doesn't feel like reading a YA book.

Keeping the Castle by Patrice Kindl

This is a good book to entice teens to try Jane Austen. It isn't anything new but it is still a delightful read and made me laugh out loud.

Pilgrims Don't Wear Pink by Stephanie Kate Strohm

This was a good summery chick lit novel that reminded me a little bit of Into the Wild Nerd Yonder. Wish the main character hadn't been so blind about guys but otherwise it was a fun book.

Books reviewed:

Smart Girls Get What They Want by Sarah Strohmeyer

Currently reading:

The Summer My Life Began by Shannon Greenland

I am halfway through this book and hoped to have it finished by now. Sadly I had to take time away from reading to get ready for my vacation. I may wait to finish this till after I get back from Canada as I have a bad habit of not writing reviews for books I read on vacation.

Star Wars: Dark Force Rising by Timothy Zahn (reread)

I've only started rereading this book and I believe it was my favorite book in the trilogy as a teen.

What I plan to read next:

Star Wars: The Last Command by Timothy Zahn (reread)

The Shoemaker's Wife by Adriana Trigiani

I've already started this one but had to put it aside to read other review books and library books. I look forward to getting back to this story. It is really good so far.

Taken By Storm by Jennifer Lynn Barnes

Originally I was going to wait to read this till I'd reread Raised By Wolves and Trial By Fire but I'm not sure I can wait.  Hopefully I'll remember everything from the first two books when I read this one.

The Girl of Fire and Thorns by Rae Carson (reread)

I originally read this book a year ago but I never wrote a review (this is one I read on vacation last year). It is my favorite book of 2011 (on reflection I think I like it more than Divergent though they are equal in quality in my opinion). I hope my second reading will make me love this book even more.

Have a great week and Happy Canada Day and Fourth of July to my Canadian and American readers!

  5. I'm pretty sure I will love Keeping the Castle just like I did Pilgrims Don't Wear Pink-they seem similar in style/tone from what I've heard. Glad to hear you enjoyed The Girl in the Clockwork Collar, wondering which character annoyed you so much...I have some thoughts...Looking forward to reviews!

  8. Have fun on your trip to Toronto. I do hope you can fit in some reading time. I liked The Girl in the Clockwork Collar and Pilgrims Don't Wear Pink too. Thanks for reminding me that I have Taken by Storm on my TBR stack too. It sort of got buried among other new arrivals. My Monday Report is here. Happy reading!

  9. The Shoemaker's Wife is my favorite book of the year so far...I loved it!

I'm glad you mentioned that the Eve Edwards book doesn't read like a typical YA book - I don't read YA, but love all books Tudor, so maybe I'll pick the series up.

    Have a great week!

  10. I LOVE Guernsey :) I tried to listen to it the first time....but was pretty confused. But since you've read it, it probably would be great. I'm going to go hunt our library audio copy up and listen again.
