Top Ten Best/Worst Series Endings

Top Ten Tuesday is an original feature/weekly meme created at The Broke and the Bookish. There is a new subject each week and this week's topic is "Top Ten Best/Worst Series Enders".

I think it is easier to find disappointing series enders compared to books that get it right.

Best Series Endings:

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows by J.K. Rowling

The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King by J.R.R. Tolkien

The Last Command by Timothy Zahn

The Bitter Kingdom by Rae Carson

United We Spy by Ally Carter

Taken By Storm by Jennifer Lynn Barnes

The Last Olympian by Rick Riordan

Disappointing Series Endings:

Breaking Dawn by Stephenie Meyer

Reached by Ally Condie

Forever by Maggie Stiefvater

Mockingjay by Suzanne Collins

Dead Ever After by Charlaine Harris

Timeless by Gail Carriger

The Amber Spyglass by Philip Pullman

  1. Ugh Mockingjay was the worst!!! I was so disappointed and let down. What was up with the Finnick death? I blinked and he was gone!

  2. Breaking Dawn, Reached and Mockingjay made my list of the worst too. So sad, because I expected so much more from all of those books. :(

  3. I agree with you about Harry Potter. I put Mockingjay somewhere in the middle as I didn't hate it but I didn't love it.

  4. I was also disappointed by Forever's ending. It wasn't just the ending either. The book as a whole just wasn't interesting to me like the first two were :/

  6. Definitely yes on The Bitter Kingdom-ended everything right! I really want to reread Mockingjay and see what I think about it now that I have some distance. I was disappointed when I first read it because I was expecting something completely different but I think I may appreciate it more now.

  7. I never did read that Timothy Zahn Star Wars series, wanted to when I was younger and never did. Thanks for reminding me of that one. :) I heard it was good. Return of the King is a great ending, and I haven't read Hunger games but Mockingjay seems to be popping up on a lot of lists as a disappointment.

  8. Well, we definitely have some cross-over! I had HP on my best list as well, and if I'd thought of it, I'd have included Return of the King too! I agree about Breaking Dawn, Forever, and Dead Ever After -- but I actually really liked the wrap-up of Timeless! Nice list -- it looks like we have a lot of reading areas in common!
