It's Monday, What Are You Reading (158)

It's Monday, What Are You Reading is a fun weekly meme hosted by Sheila at Book Journey where we share what we've read and reviewed over the past week and what we plan to read next.

Books reviewed:

Wild Cards by Simone Elkeles
If You Could Be Mine by Sara Farizan

Books read:

Delia's Shadow by Jaime Lee Moyer

This book was really good. Much better than I thought it would be even. I was expecting more of a paranormal book but it really read like a historical suspense novel with elements of the paranormal (Delia sees ghost and becomes friends with a spiritualist who helps solve the case).

Another winner from RaeAnne Thayne! I really enjoy the Hope's Crossing series and this book featured the really angry Dylan Caine who lost an eye and arm in Afghanistan and the spoiled Genevieve Beaumont who proves that there is much more to her than what is on the surface. It was a very satisfying Christmas romance.

I liked this one more than some of the other recent entries in this series. I love Miss Gwen as a character so it was fun to see her get her own book. Plus she is in her 40s and it was nice to see a romance about a couple not in their late teens/early 20s for once. I do wish the mystery/espionage element had been stronger...

The Winner's Curse by Marie Rutkoski

This book won't be out till next year sometime but I was afraid my ARC would expire before I could read it so I moved it up on my TBR pile. I didn't know much about the story going into it and at first I wasn't sure I would like Kestrel but I found this book hard to put down and it will be a really long wait for the next book.

The Rosie Project by Graeme Simsion

This book made me laugh out loud! I could easily see this being made into a movie ( and I hope it will be) and I guess it did start out as a screenplay that the author was writing. Don is quite a character but his journey to love is really endearing.

Currently reading:

This book is back on my list for this week. I started reading it last week but put it down to read Delia's Shadow instead and never picked it back up. Maybe I will make some progress now that I have it on my Kindle instead of in print...

What I plan to read next:

The House of Hades by Rick Riordan

This may be the book I've most been looking forward to this year (sorry Allegiant but how can you hope to beat "Percabeth"...). I love this series and there is only one more book to go after this one. I have a feeling this will be a darker book considering Percy and Annabeth are stuck in Tartarus but knowing Rick Riordan's writing style I'm sure there will still be some humor...I hope...

Teatime for the Firefly by Shona Patel

I likely won't get to this one yet but I put it on my list anyway because I hope to read it soon. I love the cover but the story sounds really good too.

  1. Do you think Christmas in Snowflake Canyon would be just as enjoyable if I haven't read the others in the Hope's Crossing series? Will have to check out Delia's Shadow, I'm curious now and maybe even The Rosie Project, I need a good laugh!
Have a great week and happy reading :)

  2. Oh yes House of Hades of course! Thanks for reminding me. I think it comes out tomorrow, I'll be down to buy it and read it. I am going to need to alter my reading plan for this week, as we are on school holidays and my class will want to dive into it next week!

  3. It looks like you had a great reading week-I see so many that I want to check out for myself! I really like hearing that Delia's Shadow isn't too paranormal-I got nervous because I really will prefer the historical elements.
