J.K. Rowling's New Book

I was thrilled to see the announcement this morning of J.K. Rowling's new book, The Casual Vacancy, due to be released in September. If you missed it, here is the description:

When Barry Fairweather dies unexpectedly in his early forties, the little town of Pagford is left in shock.

Pagford is, seemingly, an English idyll, with a cobbled market square and an ancient abbey, but what lies behind the pretty façade is a town at war.

Rich at war with poor, teenagers at war with their parents, wives at war with their husbands, teachers at war with their pupils...Pagford is not what it first seems.

And the empty seat left by Barry on the parish council soon becomes the catalyst for the biggest war the town has yet seen. Who will triumph in an election fraught with passion, duplicity and unexpected revelations?

Sounds quite different from Harry Potter, doesn't it? I am sure that I will still enjoy it and I think that it is good that she is going in a very different direction. The description reminds me of Helen Simonson's Major Pettigrew's Last Stand. I also wonder if it is maybe a murder mystery.

Will you be reading The Casual Vacancy

In other news, my big readers' advisory presentation for work is tomorrow and I am finally feeling ready for it. After tomorrow, I plan to crash, catch up on sleep, and catch up on reading. I will hopefully be able to write some reviews too. Unfortunately my carpal tunnel is worse at the moment so it may be some time before I go back to blogging regularly.

    1. It is ridiculously expensive, even for a J.K. Rowling book! I hope the price drops quite a bit by September
